We learned that the name 'Woolley' means 'wolf' in ancient Norse, the language of the Vikings, so we started researching this and found a legend about a wolf god called Fenrir, which has also become woven into the project.
We ran some art workshops with the local cub scouts, looking at the legend and the wonderful images that can be found within it. These will be carved into the finished gateway for visitors to puzzle over.
Here are some images from the workshop, showing the wonderful artworks created by the youngsters of the 61st Scout Troop, Standon Road, Wincobank. With special thanks to Joe Oglesby, Scout Leader.
